Application background
Insulation and sealing play important roles in the construction industry. Therefore, one of the most important aspects during the production of rubber pads is constant thickness, which can ensure durability, tear resistance and sealing ability. In order to meet these requirements, we should roll the mesh into strip, and bond it with foil into a rubber band. In case of breakdown, the rubber band should be extruded immediately after measurement. It is convenient to act an immediate intervention if there needs a modification during the production. A radioactive measuring unit was used for testing previously. One disadvantage of this technique is high cost. Therefore, we need to seek for better detection method.
Measurement scheme
Rubber strip reflect very little light, which make it a kind of material that is very difficult or almost impossible to be measured. We can use two LDS to measure its thickness.
Using LDS, we can realize non-contact accurate and efficient measurement. Considering the width of the strip, we can adjust the sensor moving direction, and transmit the measured data to the control system.
